A Pride and Prejudice variation. The worlds of Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet literally collide. During a violent storm, Darcy races to recover his sister from George Wickham. At the same time, Elizabeth and her father are traveling to holiday in Ramsgate with the Gardiner family. When the two carriages collide, their lives will be altered forever.

While in reality I love almost all of Miss Schertz' novels, this one was, unfortunately, too awful to enjoy. The evil that emanated from these pages turned a light Sunday into one I almost regret. I would say that I too read to the end in the hope that some light would shine other than on the few it did from the third or fourth chapter but it didn't happen, and not only was it the normal angst, there were truly awful subjects to tackle from one page to the next. I admit that two or three of these things would have made for an interesting book, but for between 6-8 depraved and truly malice intents with twists that only made them more awful as the pages turned, I cannot suggest this read if you are looking for a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

On the Road to Ramsgate edition by Melanie Schertz a Lady Pat Weston Romance eBooks Reviews

What happen to the 20,000 Pounds that Wickham got a year ago and his leaving for the Continent? He's back and in the militia and broke. Could even he spend 20,000 that quickly? Darcy's family is again over the top. Do they all have to be so unreasonable in every story? Darcy once again provides for his cousin. Darcy even gave his cousin's child the Darcy estate in lieu of his own children in one story.

Plot not bad, but parts of story develops horribly. What was done to Georgiana after Wickham got the money was gross!
Terrible story. Filled with sadness and all the good characters are villains. The only people who do well are Darcy and Elizabeth, Mrs Reynolds and some of the other servants. Even Jane is weak and jealous (the opposite of Jane Austen's character) and not in love with Bingley, Mrs Bennet is beyond redemption. The characters are caricatures of unreason. I shall do my best to forget this version.
I really like Melanie Schertz...she writes what she sees...I am a fan and this was my second time reading this book. It is a P&P variation, it is called that for a reason, it is not Pride and Prejudice rewritten. It is sad from the very beginning and throughout and yes has a happy ending. I loved the fact that Jane was a bitch, cause I felt that way about her in Jane Austen's version, I know the horror...this is a sad, creepy, tug at your heart story. If that is not what you want to read than don't, but I will probably read it again and again..Thank you Melanie Schertz for this story.
I rather agree with "Austen Fan" as to the contents of the story but I give it three stars simply for the entertainment value. I had to laugh at every unexpected fatality as the bodies were stacking up like firewood. Plus...the villains were literally crawling out of the wainscoting. If this story was in a comic strip they would all be stroking their mustaches (women included) and laughing Bwaaahahaha. If this was the first book of a 3 book series the second book couldn't be written because all the villains croaked in book one. As I said, very entertaining.
I have read several of Melanie Schertz's books and the main thing I remember about all of them is her very creative ideas. The books are not always well written, need editing and proofreading (common in this genre), but unfortunately in this one the conversation was stilted. It is also a bit dark, but I didn't mind that. I think the author has wonderful potential to produce a strong novel, giving her ideas room to be expanded. I hope she will attempt that in the future.
This is one of the darkest versions of P&P variations I've ever read. I liked it very much. It was very well written, the characters were well developed, especially the evil ones(and there were many). The storyline line flowed very well and all that deserved it received their comeuppance. There were even some plot twists that one would not expect with formerly "dearest" characters, and that's all I will divulge regarding that matter.
My one complaint is that I would have liked more development of the love story, that was all I found lacking.
I do recommend it, especially for those readers whom do not mind such a wide departure from the original.
Enjoyed this story variation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, but the evil in this story was by far the worst angst filled variation I've ever read to date. Bless Elizabeth, Darcy, Fitzwilliam, Bingley, the Gardiners, Phillips, and the little children. Oh, Darcy's servants were faithful both in London and Pemberley as well. Cannot say too much more other than all of the other major characters should be shot! Leaves a lot of room for one to guess the hatred within this novel. Happy ending, but took some heartfelt moments to get there. Realize this review is short, but I do not want to give away this story. Great job Melanie! Could not put this down before I finished reading the entire story. Kept me glued until the end.
